- Device generates its own seed — 24 words
- Write on the included recovery sheets (not on your computer!)
- Store one recovery sheet in safe, one off-site
- Update Ledger Live + device firmware
- Send a small test amount, send it back, then send real funds
Ledger Recover controversy
In 2023, Ledger added an optional cloud-based backup service. Not default. Some users lost trust; others don't care. You decide — but you can turn it off and the device works identically.
